The BEST Tinted Mineral Sunscreen I've Ever Tried for Dark Skin Tones
When it comes to sunscreen, there are two non-negotiables for me. First, it has to provide at least SPF 30 protection (even better if it’s SPF 50). And second, it has to complement my skin tone. That may sound like the bare minimum, but as someone with a melanin-rich skin tone, it’s a challenge to find a sunscreen that doesn’t make me look like a ghost. Because of that, I tend to steer clear of mineral and tinted formulas because they just never seem to look right on me. That is until I tried the Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex SPF 50 ($45).
It’s a tinted mineral sunscreen that uses iron oxide pigments to blend into your skin as you rub it in. The formula is hydrating, lightweight, and gives that “your skin but better” coverage. I use the shade “Deep” and the color match is perfect. It’s cut my morning makeup routine down to just five steps: sunscreen, powder, brows, mascara, and cream blush.
Aside from sun protection, this sunscreen also provides blue light protection because it contains iron oxides. Blue light from the sun has been shown to worsen hyperpigmentation such as dark spots, acne scars, or melasma.
The sunscreen comes in four flex shades: Fair, Medium, Tan, and Deep. It takes a bit of work to rub it in, but once you do it’s *chef’s kiss* perfection. I have normal skin and find I only need a light moisturizer under this sunscreen or I start to look greasy instead of dewy. I love this sunscreen and definitely plan to keep it in rotation. I’m also very intrigued to try the other makeup-sunscreen hybrids from Colorescience.
