8 Ways to Enjoy a DIY Spa Day From Home

8 Ways to Enjoy a DIY Spa Day From Home

With so much going on in the world right now, self-care is key. But since a day at the spa isn’t an option at the moment, I like to turn my studio apartment into a self-care oasis at least once a week. I take some time for myself, put on my fluffiest robe, and treat myself to some TLC. Here is what’s on my at-home spa menu.

Multimask

Give yourself a spa-level facial from home by using three masks instead of one. Start with an exfoliating mask, like Inkey List’s Apple Cider Vinegar Acid Peel ($15), to remove dead skin and draw out impurities. Follow with a pore-refining mask, one of my favorites is Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack ($22), to detoxify pores and refine skin texture. The last step is a hydrating mask to replenish your skin with moisture, the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask ($25) has never let me down. Your skin will feel seriously clean, plumped, and toned.

Give Your Hair Extra TLC

No at-home spa day is complete without a hair mask. Apply your favorite mask and let it soak in while you watch your favorite Netflix show, or combine with another beauty treatment on the list. There are a ton of different options, depending on your hair needs, but one of my favorites at the moment is the Gisou Honey Infused Hair Mask ($62). It smells amazing and always leaves my hair feeling silky smooth.

Indulge in Luxurious Bath

Baths are the epitome of self-care. I love to pour myself a glass of wine, turn on my favorite Netflix show, and soak. To make bath time feel even more luxurious, I like to set the scene by lighting a candle, right now I love the Boy Smells Kush Candles ($48). Bath bombs are another way to take your bath to the next level, and OUAI Chill Pills ($30) are my go-to. They are formulated with jojoba oil, safflower oil, and hemp seed oil which will leave your skin feeling silky and moisturized. The relaxing jasmine-rose scent sets the mood for an evening of ultimate relaxation.

Scrub From Head to Toe

I love adding a body scrub when I want my in-shower routine to feel extra special. Not only does it exfoliate dead skin to reveal smoother skin, it adds an extra layer of pampering to your routine. I’ve been reaching for the Lalicious Extraordinary Whipped Sugar Scrub ($36). It has pure sugar cane crystals to slough away dead skin cells, and coconut oil to nourish and moisturize. My favorite scent is Brown Sugar Vanilla!

Lather Up in Body Oils

When I lather myself in body oils post-shower, I’m not in my mediocre Montreal apartment, I’m in a gorgeous resort spa somewhere in the Caribbean. Body oils leave my skin feeling soft, moisturized and smelling amazing. I like using a DIY concoction of equal parts jojoba oil, argan oil, and olive oil. Pro tip: use a body oil while your skin is still damp to lock in moisture.

Do a Post-Shower Lymphatic Body Massage

When I have some extra time I like to give myself a post-shower massage. Not only will a lymphatic body massage relax your body, but it also helps with the natural drainage of the lymph, which helps eliminate waste from the body. To give yourself a lymphatic body massage at home, use a body oil or lotion for some slip, and start from the area just below your collarbone to start the drainage and massage your body with upward strokes. This tutorial is super helpful if you need some guidance. When I do this regularly, I notice that my body looks tighter which is a plus.

Treat Your Nails

A fresh manicure always makes me feel like a new woman. It’s a fun way to pamper yourself and switch up your look. I like to give myself the full salon experience and start by soaking my hands in warm water to soften the skin, then I take a sharp pair of cuticle trimmers and trim off excess skin. Then I cut, buff, and file my nails to prep them for nail polish. I’ve been into bright colors lately and have gotten a ton of compliments on Essie’s Mod Square shade, which is a glossy Barbie pink shade!

Try a Foot Soak

Our feet often get left out when it comes to beauty treatments, but with summer around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get our toes ready for sandal weather. If a professional pedicure isn’t an option right now, an at-home foot soak and scrub is the next best thing. First, a foot soak will help to soften the dry, dead skin that builds up on our heels. My favorite soak is Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Foot Soak ($5), the peppermint oil is cooling and refreshing, while the baking soda acts as a natural deodorizer. I follow up by removing all the loosened dead skin with a pumice stone. My final step is slathering my feet with a rich foot cream, like L’Occitane Shea Butter Foot Cream ($29), then I put socks on to let all the moisturizing ingredients marinate.
