Hydrating & Moisturizing Masks For Healthy Winter Skin
Cold weather means warm blankets, hot cocoa, and, unfortunately, dry skin. Luckily, there are tons of hydrating skincare products from toners to moisturizers and everything in between, so there are options for everyone. My latest obsession is hydrating sleep masks. Susan Yara has dubbed this winter the season of “double moisturization” (aka topping your moisturizer with a richer, more occlusive layer), and hydrating sleep masks are the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of “double moisturization.” So I rounded up some hydrating face masks to try now if you want to keep your skin happy, hydrated, and healthy during the colder months.
Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask ($34)
I first fell in love with Laneige because of their lip sleeping mask (yes, it really is that good), so I had high hopes for the Cica Sleeping Mask ($34). I know their Water Sleeping Mask has a cult following, but I was drawn to the redness-fighting power that comes with cica (centella asiatica or “tiger grass”). I have sensitive, acne-prone skin, so redness and I know each other very, very well. I also was intrigued by the hypoallergenic claims. Yes, that means fragrance free, but also soothing and calming. So not only does it reduce redness and strengthen the skin barrier, but it’s hydrating, lightweight, and great for redness-prone skin types.
Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask ($48)
If you’re a vitamin C lover, then this mask is for you. The Youth To The People Dream Mask ($48) is a hydrating mask with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, or THD ascorbate, (a non-irritating vitamin C derivative) that brightens and treats the skin. It also has squalane, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants to hydrate and fight free-radicals. It’s a rich overnight mask with a buttery smooth texture. The reviews for this mask speak for themselves. Just note that a little goes a long way with this guy.
Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask ($52)
They don’t call this an “electrolyte waterfacial” for nothing. This cooling and hydrating overnight mask is loaded with antioxidant-rich humectants, electrolytes, vitamin F (hello, linoleic acid!), and niacinamide. Drunk Elephant rarely misses the mark, and F-Balm ($52) is no exception. If you want to wake up with hydrated, bouncy, firm skin, you need to add this to your cart ASAP.
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask ($48)
When Summer Fridays first launched with this Jet Lag Mask ($48), it broke the internet. It’s a rich and ultra-hydrating cream mask that features ceramides, shea butter, vitamin C, and niacinamide. It also has chestnut extract to gently exfoliate the skin. One key reason it’s quickly become a cult-favorite is because of it’s versatility. Most people use it is as a hydrating overnight mask, but it also can be used as a quick 10 minute mask, as your daily moisturizer (depending on your skin type), or as a primer.
COSrx Ultra Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask ($18)
As someone with acne-prone skin, I know how intimidating an overnight hydrating mask can be. Luckily, there are options for all skin types. The COSRX Overnight Spa Mask ($18) is a lightweight overnight mask that uses rice extract and niacinamide to fight inflammation, smooth texture, brighten, and minimize the appearance of pores. So this one is for my acne-prone, oily skin fam — you too can hop on the “double moisturization” train and wake up with nourished and hydrated skin.
NATURIUM Intense Overnight Sleeping Cream ($25)
Of course I had to include Susan Yara’s Intense Overnight Sleeping Cream ($25) from NATURIUM. I was definitely hesitant to try this at first because it has “intense” in the name and I lean oily, but after one use, I was hooked. It’s formulated with plant squalane, Kakadu plum, and plant-based triglycerides to hydrate, brighten, and plump the skin. My favorite way to use it is over my go-to NATURIUM Niacinamide Gel Cream ($20) and right before a nice rolling session with my Sacheu Stainless Steel Facial Roller ($35). A little goes a long way with this cream, and I know I’ll be reaching for this bad boy more and more as we get further into winter.
