Gold Glitter Eye Makeup for New Year's Eve!
Nothing screams New Year's Eve like gold and glitter, so why not wear it as makeup? We got makeup artist Nikki La Rose to show us how to do a gorgeous and festive gold glitter eye makeup look to help you ring in the new year.
Step 1: Highlight your eyes
After you prime your eyelids with MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($22) in Soft Ochre, highlight your brow bone with MAC Eyeshadow ($16) in Mylar and use Mac Eyeshadow ($16) in White Frost in your tear duct.
Step 2: Define your crease
Start on the outer corner of the eye and apply a crease color like MAC Eyeshadow ($26) in Wedge in small circular motions. Then, use a windshield wiper motion to brush the color inward. Add more definition with a darker color like MAC Eyeshadow ($16) Saddle and blend it even tighter into the crease. Basically, you use the first color to create a diffused crease and then the second color defines it.
Step 3: Add extra definition
Switch to a smaller blending brush and apply MAC Eyeshadow ($16) in Embark just on the outer corner. You want to create a small smoky V shape.
Step 4: Glitter time!
Now it’s time for the glitter. Use a brush to paint a thin layer of makeup adhesive like Hollywood Lights Mixing Adhesive ($14) on your eyelid and then use another brush to pat the glitter on top. For this look, Nikki used MAC Pigment ($22) in Old Gold. Repeat until entire eyelid is covered with an even layer of glitter.
TIP: To prevent a glittery mess, pack on an obnoxious amount of loose powder under the eye so the glitter doesn’t stick. Then dust it away with a fluffy brush once you’re done applying the glitter.
Step 5: Finish with liquid liner
Finish the look with liquid liner. Using a liquid liner is essential because putting gel liners on top of glitter is extremely difficult. Create a wing at the end to add an extra flare to the look. (Get tips on how to do a winged eyeliner here.) Add a coat of mascara to your top and bottom lashes and you’re done!
Optional Step: Apply false lashes.
Here's the final look!
