Does Mascara Primer Really Work?
I've always thought mascara primer was an unnecessary extra step, but back in the day, I thought the same about makeup primer and found that it really does help your makeup last longer and look smoother. So when I came across L'Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara ($11), I decided to give it a go...because why not?
It's a dual-sided mascara that promises to lengthen, volumize, and lift your lashes so they look like they were done by a pro. The white primer side is what builds the volume and then you top it with the black mascara side to lift and lengthen.
The first time I applied it, I spent a little too much time taking selfies with my white lashes. By the time I got to the mascara side, my lashes were too stiff and looked spidery rather than voluminious. I remedied this by moving on to the mascara coat 10 to 15 seconds after applying the primer coat. I then waited another 10 to 15 seconds and applied a second coat.
Once I mastered the timing, everything changed. I have to say I'm super impressed by this mascara. Just take a look at the difference below!
My lashes look long and super thick and I get compliments on them every time I wear it. A few people were surprised that I wasn't wearing falsies. It's safe to say I'm now a fan of mascara primers.
